MAUK WhatsApp groups | User policy and guidance

When creating an official MAUK WhatsApp group, the Chair and Secretary must be added as admins.

The purpose of the group is for group members to communicate/inform about MAUK matters.  Always keep to the purpose of the group! Don’t share irrelevant messages about other topics.

Keep in mind that your words can be interpreted in multiple ways, so use short sentences that can’t be misinterpreted.

Please avoid posting voice messages.  If you are posting voice message, please keep them short and simple so people pay attention to the message you are trying to convey.

Do not have one-on-one conversations in the group. When you are having a dialogue with a single member of the group, switch to private messages as the rest of the group may not be interested in reading your conversation with another person.

Do not post in the group between 22:00 and 07:00 unless it is an all-out emergency.

Do not post personal data of individuals in the group. These include telephone numbers, email id, address etc. Please transfer such details via private message to the person who requested for them.

Never EVER use a group to berate someone else or air grievances. If you have an issue address it one on one with the relevant person.

If you are not sure, ask yourself these questions before you post:

  1. Is this relevant?
  2. Is it accurate?
  3. Is this necessary?
  4. Will it hurt the feelings of others in the group?
  5. Is it likely to cause physiological or physical harm to others?
  6. Is this a good time to post?

If you are still not sure, please speak to the Chair or Secretary before posting.

Anyone failing to adhere to the rules of the group will be removed from the group until the next regular meeting during which further decisions on the matter will be taken.
