Manu Sunilkumar
Manu Sunilkumar is a renowned Kalaripayattu Master with over 22 years of intensive training under Padmashri Shankara Narayana Menon Gurukkal at the prestigious Vallabhatta Kalari in Chavakkad, Kerala. With a deep passion for the art, Manu has become a global leader in Kalaripayattu, holding six world records, including three in the Indian Book of Records and three in the Asian Book of Records. His excellence in the discipline has earned him the Grand Master Award and multiple victories at National and University-level championships.
Manu’s achievements have also earned national recognition. He was honoured by the Indian government, meeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and receiving accolades from prominent Indian Army Generals. His dedication during his time in the National Cadet Corps (NCC) earned him an award from the Indian Army Chief, further cementing his reputation as a symbol of discipline and leadership.
In addition to his martial arts mastery, Manu holds three advanced degrees in Human Movement Science, which include an MSc in Strength and Conditioning Science from Middlesex University, London, a Post Graduate Diploma in Sports Performance Analysis from Netaji Subhas National Institute of Sports, and an MSc in Sports Biomechanics from Lakshmibai National Institute of Physical Education. These qualifications complement his practical expertise, giving him a well-rounded approach to training and teaching.
Manu has shared his extensive knowledge with law enforcement and military personnel, emphasising both the practical and philosophical aspects of Kalaripayattu. He has also managed Kalaripayattu schools in Kerala, nurturing and guiding future practitioners. As the founder of the Guru Karna Vallabhatta Kalaripayattu Academy in London, Manu is dedicated to preserving and promoting Kalaripayattu globally. His academy plays a key role in safeguarding this ancient martial art while inspiring a global audience to appreciate its rich heritage.
In addition to teaching, Manu has organised and participated in international Kalaripayattu demonstrations, showcasing the beauty, discipline, and philosophy of this martial art to a worldwide audience, leaving a lasting impact on the martial arts community.
